I have to warn you, this is going to be a sad post for some of you. The truth is, it is for me as well. However, history is a powerful part of our lives and a great pillar of human culture. Despite how cruel or irritating some of our past stories can get, we are still obligated to tell them.
On Tuesday September 11, 2001, a terrorist group known as al-Qaeda waged a coordinated attack against the United States of America. This Islamist group was operating under the leadership of Osama bin Laden.
Four Coordinated Attacks
On the wake of September 11, Husbands kissed their wives as they left for work and vice versa. Children were dropped at school. Wives and mothers worked their regular morning routines. Families were going on with their daily happenings. It was a normal Tuesday morning in the US.
At exactly 8:46 am, the first attack featured a plane crashing at the World Trade Center in Manhattan. This was followed by three other attacks in Pennsylvania, Shanksville and Arlington County, Virginia.
Lots of People Lost Their Lives
These attacks led to the loss of several lives, including passengers on the planes, crew and the plane hijackers. It was a dark day for the people of the United States, and the whole world. This day is remembered in history as one of the worst terrorist attacks on a democratic country.
The aftermath of 911 led to disunity among religions, races and nationalities. It brought about suspicion and trauma. New flight and travel regulations were imposed and security against terrorism was tightened.
The Hunt for al-Qaeda
Today, several arrests and executions related to the attack have been made against the terrorist group that planned and executed the September 11 attacks. During the reign of President Barrack Obama, the White House confirmed the killing of Osama bin Laden together with his collaborators.
However, the hunt for terrorist brought a difficult time amongst citizens from Islamist states and some Muslim associated races. Stereotyping became one of the biggest threats to world peace and unity. So far, many people have been wrongly arrested, convicted and even murdered in suspicion raised by their religion or race.
Conclusion
Over 20 years later, the whole world has not fully healed and recovered from the pain and trauma caused by the September 11 attacks. In the United States, many families are still grieving for the loss of lives of their beloved ones. All we can do is pray for peace, love and unity among all humans, irrespective of race, region or religion.
