A boring tool is a tool used in metalworking and woodworking. Boring is a technique used in many aspects of building. Woodworkers have used boring as a form of drilling for centuries. In woodworking, the boring tool is static in size and used to form circular plunge cuts.As professional engineers, boring tools are very important, especially civil engineers.it is mostly used in the enlargement of already drilled holes.
Ratchet brace: The Ratchet Brace, also known as Brace and Bits, is a hand tool used to drill holes or nails into wood. The linear motion of its crank-shaped handle can provide ample torque when drilling. This is used to boreholes. It has a chunk into which the appropriate bit is fitted.
Wheel brace: this is a similar metalwork hand drill and The twist drill is usually fitted into the chuck. It is rotated through the wheel and pinion by operating its hand lever. A brace is a hand tool used with a bit (drill bit or auger) to drill holes, usually in wood. Pressure is applied to the top and the tool is rotated with a U-shaped grip.
Centre bit: Centre Drills (aka Slocombe Drills) were designed to provide a location for a Tailstock Centre (hence their 60deg point angle) but are commonly used to make a small starting indentation to guide further drilling in a Lathe. Centre Bits were designed principally for use with a Carpenter's Brace and usually have a Square Tapered Shank for this purpose. this is normally used during boring of shallow holes.
Twist drill: Twist drills are rotary cutting tools that normally have two cutting edges and two flutes which are grooves formed in the body to provide cutting lips, to permit the removal of chips and to allow coolant or cutting fluid to reach the cutting action. This is used for during boring of deep holes. They are most frequently used for metal cutting, so they are generally made from M2 high-speed steel.
Dowel bit: this is usually used when two component parts are to be joined together by the use of dowel pins.
Countersunk bit: this is for boring of holes that require headed screws and bolts.Countersink bit is used to cut a conical hole so that it can allow the head of a bolt or screw. During working time a joiner first bore for the screw then cut the conical hole. These bits are available in six several sizes which are 60°, 82°, 90°, 100°, 110°, or 120°. Among them 82° and 90° Countersinks are the most common wood boring tools.
