When desire to fly becomes greater than the fear of jumping
For years we were not really happy with our Dutch life anymore. Of course, we both had great jobs, a nice new build house and more than eight weeks a year vacation, with the use of overtime. Yet we had the feeling that life slipped by us and much of it took place in an office building. It felt kind of like living in The Matrix, actually.
That's why we went to our holiday home in Hungary - Yes. To stay in The Matrix atmosphere; that was our hideout, our spaceship of Morpheus, the real world. There we could then briefly 'charge' ourselves in the midst of nature for the ratrace that was going to follow again. And that went on again, until the next short break... Might sound weird, but that was exactly the way we felt it.
It only made our wish to live a simpler, more self-sufficient life in Hungary. We knew it for sure. We no longer wanted to be 'caged' in an office space but tossing outside in the clay and picking fresh chicken eggs for breakfast in the morning.
About a year ago, we added the word to the word. We fired our bosses (jeey), sold our beloved house (ow) and set in motion everything that comes with emigration. And that's quite a lot. I will have a blog post on that later. A leap in the deep. Without swimming bands. But also; not dreaming your life, but living your dreams.
So now we've escaped this Matrix for almost a year. And we live in a 115 year old clay farm with tons of job potential screaming to be serviced by us. And we love every minute of it. We find that nothing can match the feeling but to make something beautiful with our own hands, to restore it to its former glory.
We also liked life without (office) job or other form of imposed structure. They say you have to learn to deal with freedom. In that case, we are natural talents. Fortunately, the fact that we are 'stuck' here 24 hours a day instead of each in a different office has not led to any significant problems. The lack of 'intellectual challenge' that some warned us of does not break us either. On the contrary, we need to learn so many new skills that our brain has already had to create countless new synapses.
For example, we learned how to cook and bake on an awkward wood stove without packets and bags, and we are confronted with a foreign language (Hungarian). A language that, incidentally, leads to one of the most difficult in the world (that is a thing). And because we want to live as much as possible self-sufficient, this year we will also plunge into the world of vegetable gardeners. This is a topic that can count on growing attention, especially among young people. A real revival he is going through, that vegetable garden!
Do you recognize that feeling? That life seems to pass by you, as if you were in a Matrix-like environment?
