When did the vampire diaries come out?

CastOn September 10, 2009, the first season of The Vampire Diaries premiered in the United States. It's a TV adaptation of the same-named series of young adult novels by L.J. Smith. A one-week vacation was taken in October, followed by a two-month hiatus from November 19 to January 21. Then, from February 11 to March 25, there was a gap.

Season Summary

Elena Gilbert, 17, and her 15-year-old brother, Jeremy, are still adjusting to their new life four months after their parents were murdered in a devastating vehicle accident. Elena had always been the top student, attractive, popular, and active at school and with friends, but she is now fighting to hide her pain from the rest of the world. Elena and Jeremy are now living with their laid-back but overworked Aunt Jenna, who is attempting to be a surrogate mother.

Elena finds solace in her old social group, which includes best friend Bonnie, frenemy Caroline, and ex-boyfriend Matt, while Jeremy is on a more perilous road, hanging out with stoners and hiding his sorrow with drugs. Jeremy is also perplexed as to why Vicki, Matt's sister, is suddenly rejecting him and spending out with Jeremy's opponent, Tyler.

Stefan Salvatore, a gorgeous and mysterious new student at Mystic Falls High School, fascinates Elena and her classmates as the school year begins. Stefan and Elena are drawn to each other right away, however Elena is perplexed by Stefan's increasingly strange behavior when he unexpectedly arrives at the cemetery where her parents are buried. What she doesn't comprehend is that Stefan is concealing his own dark, dangerous secret: he's a 161-year-old vampire. Elena and Stefan are just starting to know each other at a bonfire party the next night when pandemonium breaks out when Vicki is assaulted and left wounded from a brutal bite to the neck.

Stefan comes home, fearful that he knows who is responsible for the attack, and discovers his elder brother, Damon, whom he hasn't seen in 15 years. Damon is a vampire as well, and the two brothers have a tumultuous history. Damon mocks Stefan for rejecting their bloody past, but he understands his brother's fixation with Elena since she resembles a woman Stefan adored more than a century ago, a woman Damon sought to adopt. Now, these two vampire brothers - one good, one evil – are fighting for Elena's soul, as well as the souls of her friends, family, and all of Mystic Falls' people.

Chapter One

• The Vicki (Chapter 1) Section: (Ep. 101 - 107) This chapter focuses on Damon Salvatore's reappearance and his murky influence over the town's happenings, notably Vicki Donovan. Stefan is eager to see Elena Gilbert, who resembles the vampire he and his brother fell in love with in 1864. Damon converts Vicki into a vampire while wreaking mayhem throughout town. Stefan stakes her in front of Jeremy and Elena just as she was ready to murder them. Damon promises to convince Jeremy to forget about Vicki's death, giving Stefan hope for his brother.

Despite Annabelle, the Tomb vampire Pearl's daughter, and her plans to open the tomb, Damon manages to sneak in and out of the tomb before the barriers are re-erected with the assistance of Stefan, Elena, Bonnie, and Grams. Damon is saddened when Grams dies from using too much strength for the spell, which knocked down the barrier completely and allowed the Tomb Vampires to escape.

Cast

Since the beginning of the season, there have been 10 series regulars. Stefan and Damon are the only main characters in the series that have appeared in every episode so far.
Vicki Donovan (Kayla Ewell) is the show's first significant character to die. In the seventh episode of the season, Haunted, she leaves the cast.
Vicki's prospective comeback was discussed by Kayla Ewell in an interview. Vicki's death, she said, was necessary for Jeremy to undergo a metamorphosis, and that "On a vampire program, anything may happen. Someone's death does not always imply that they are no longer alive ". She said that she is still under contract in another interview, although executive producer Kevin Williamson indicated that there are no plans to bring her back in another. 
In History Repeating, Matt Davis (Alaric Saltzman) enters the cast as a recurrent character until becoming a main character in the middle of Season One, replacing Kayla Ewell.

Notes

The Vampire Diaries' first season has been extended by nine episodes, bringing the total number of episodes to 22.
Several characters uncovered the Salvatore brothers' secret during the season:
In episode 5, You're Undead To Me, Elena discovered that Stefan and Damon are vampires.

In episode 9, History Repeating, Bonnie finds out.

Caroline discovered the truth in episode 3 of Friday Night Bites, but she feels obliged to forget about it.

In episode 6 of Lost Girls, Vicki discovers the truth and is transformed into a vampire.

In episode 18 of Under Control, Jeremy finds out.

Alaric was well aware of the situation.

Damon is the major adversary during this season, as he was in the first book in the trilogy.

The Awakening and The Struggle are loosely based on this season.
On Tuesday, February 16, 2010, The CW announced an early renewal for Season 2 of The Vampire Diaries, as well as 5 other popular CW TV program.
