When Did World War 1 Begin?

Introduction
Just after the assassination of Franz Ferdinand of Austrian in 1914, World War I, commonly called the Great War, started. His assassination sparked a European war that lasted until 1918. Germany, the Hungarian empire, Bulgarian, and the Ottomans (the Central Powers) battled the United Kingdom, France, Russia, Italy, Romanian, Japanese, and the U.s. during the battle (the Allied Powers). Apis plotted the murder of Franz Ferdinand, heir presumptive to the Austrian emperor Franz Joseph, believing that his death might benefit the Serb struggle, and discovering that the Archduke was going to visit Bosnia on an army inspections tour. The conspiracy was discovered by Serbian Prime Minister Nikola Pai, an ally of Apis, who notified the Austrian administration, but his communication was too discreetly phrased to be comprehended.

Franz Ferdinand and his morganatic spouse, Sophie, Duchess of Hohenberg, were fatally shot by a Bosnian Serb, Gavrilo Princip, at 11:15 a.m. on June 28, 1914, in Sarajevo, Bosnia's capital.
