When did YouTube Come Out

YouTube was created on February 14th, 2005 in San Mateo, California by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim. The three founders knew each other from working together at another Internet start up, PayPal. It did not take long for the site to become popular, and in November 2006, Internet search engine goliath Google purchased YouTube for $1.65 billion.

YouTube is now one of the largest and most popular video distribution platforms on the Internet. It has more than 4 billion hours worth of video viewers every month, and an estimated 500 hours of video content are uploaded to YouTube every passing minute. YouTube is an online video-sharing service platform. The website or platform allows users to upload, share and view content.

Who Founded YouTube

YouTube is a platform that was created from the ideas of 3 great minds as follows;

• Chad Hurley
• Steve Chen
• Jawed Karim

Chad Hurley studied design at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania prior to joining Ebay’s PayPal division after graduating in 1999. At Paypal, he primarily focused on the user experience (UX) of their interface.

Steven Shih Chen was born in 1978 in Taipei, Taiwan. His family emigrated to the U.S. when he was eight years old. Steve left the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy prior to graduating.He later attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he graduated in 2002 with a degree in computer science. He would later join Paypal.

Jawed Karim was born in 1979 in Merseburg, East Germany. His mother was German. Jawed would later study computer science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, but left prior to graduating.


First Video on YouTube

Fifteen years ago, a guy named Jawed Karim posted the first-ever video to YouTube. The 18-second video, entitled "Me at the zoo," features Karim, a YouTube cofounder, at the San Diego Zoo standing in front of a bunch of elephants.

The low-quality video was posted on YouTube a month before the platform's public beta launch in May 2005. By this point, YouTube's team had pivoted from an idea for a dating site to a vision for a platform that made online video more accessible and easier to share. The website then officially launched in November 2005.

Unique Features in YouTube

Just add the word 'GIF' before YouTube in the browser tab, so that it reads gifyoutube.com. You get redirected to a page. It is here that you can select a portion of up to 15 seconds from the video to convert into a GIF. Before you download the GIF, you also have the option of adding text and stickers

Have you ever come across a very funny portion in a YouTube video and wanted to share that with a friend? You can save your friend the trouble of watching the entire YouTube by sharing it from exactly the point from where you want them to watch.

This can be done by adding #t to the end of the video URL. Keep in mind that you must add the minute and the second too and ensure that the number of minutes should be followed by ‘m’ and second by ‘s.’ It would make the end of your URL look something like ‘#t =08m15s.

• Watch videos offline: In case you didn’t know this already, you can save YouTube videos to watch them later in offline mode. Just click on the arrow below the video you are watching and you’re done. However, note that this can only be done on mobile and not ddesktop
• Customize the ads that you see
  Much like Google, YouTube also lets you control the ads that you see on the website. You can’t get rid of them, but you can definitely customize them so that you get only the content that you are interested in. Just head to Ad Preferences on Google and remove whichever type of ads you don’t want to see.
