Finding out that you are pregnant is a magical experience. The joy of knowing a baby is growing inside you gives you confidence and joy. Your belly grows bigger and bigger each day and you will always be thinking about your little one throughout your pregnancy. It is good to document your pregnancy journey by taking some professional belly photos. But when should you plan for a maternity shoot? Pregnancies differ from one woman to the other, and several factors can determine when to take belly photos. I will give you some tips on the best time to take pregnancy photos and tips for the best photos.

When Should You Take Maternity Photos

When you are pregnant, you are probably looking forward to the day you will show off your baby bump- I know the excitement! You don’t want to take your belly photos too early and neither do you want to do the photoshoot too late. The best time to plan for a maternity shoot is when you are 7 or 8 months pregnant ( 28-36 weeks). At this time, your baby bump is all grown nice and round. Additionally, the bump hasn’t dropped too far so it still appears higher. During this period of pregnancy, expectant mothers also feel comfortable posing for photos.

Reasons for Taking Maternity Photos Earlier

While the recommended time for taking pregnancy photos is between 28-36 weeks, there are situations when pregnant mothers might consider taking the shoots earlier. Pregnancies are not always the same for every woman and therefore not all rules might apply. The following are some situations when you might need to take your maternity shoots earlier.

1. Announcing you are pregnant

Sometimes you or your family might want to use your maternity photos to make announcements. This might need you to plan the photo shoot when you are 27 or 28 weeks. You can alter this timeline to suit the turnaround time for the announcements.

2. Carrying more than one child

If you are carrying multiple babies, consider an earlier maternity shoot. This can be in your second trimester when you are 13-24 weeks pregnant. Even though it is still early, do your photo shoot earlier if you are expecting multiples.
