When was the telegraph invented

The name telegraph comes from the Greek words tele, which means "far away," and graphein, which means "to write." It was first used to describe an optical semaphore system established in France. The semaphore, invented in 1791 by the Chappe brothers, Claude and Ignace, was one of the most effective visual telegraphs. George Murray in England invented another extensively used visual telegraph in 1795. The world's need to improve its capacity to communicate over long distances only intensified with the advent of European semaphore lines. People desired a method to communicate and receive news from far regions. They want to understand what was going on around the globe at large, rather than simply in their local town or city.
This sort of communication appealed to the media sector and to private persons and businesses looking to maintain contact with connections. The parent of the electrical recording telegraph was the European optical telegraph, often known as a semaphore. Many telegraphic systems have existed throughout history, but the electric telegraph, which was established in the mid-nineteenth century and served as the dominant means of transmitting written information by wire or radio wave for more than a century, is the most well-known.

The telegraph concept transferring electric messages through wires was developed in the early 1700s.  Samuel Morse a professor at New York University, began working on his telegraph in 1832, created Morse Code in 1835 and submitted his proposal to the United States Congress in 1837. Morse was not the first to think of the concept. Many others claimed to have invented the first electrical telegraph before 1837, but he was the first to acquire legislative backing for his telegraph and a commercial plan to make it operational. With the help of Congress, Morse developed a telegraph line connecting Washington, D.C., and Baltimore in 1843. The first message, "What hath God wrought?" was transmitted on May 24, 1844.

The telegraph system took a long time to develop, and several attempts to make it operate for the entire country failed. Morse gradually disseminated his innovation, eventually extending the telegraph line to New York. At the same time, other corporations began to realize the telegraph's influence and began building their networks in other regions of the country. In 1861, Western Union constructed the first transcontinental telegraph connection.
Politics and business were bound by geography before the invention of the telegraph. The globe was separated into geographically distinct sections. National and international news was hardly known, and what was disseminated was frequently out of date. The invention of telegraph changed the scenario and made international communication easy than ever before. It appeared as though data could flow freely like water. Although Samuel F. B. Morse's successful telegraph test in 1837 is no longer in operation, it did pave the way for many other types of long-distance communication.
