Frederick Valentich was a 22-year-old pilot in training. On October 21, 1978, he decided to take a test flight from Moorabinn Airport to King Island across the Bass Strait, the direct waterway to the small King Island. But on the way, a separate flying object suddenly appeared 300 meters above him. It looked unusual. Because it had no wings and no known drive parts. It looked like the Tic Tag that the Pentagon recently released. Actually thanks to Luis Allizondo, who was then director of AATIP, a UFO research group. Because the US government feared people would panic if they heard the truth about UFO sightings. Elizondo released the photos and further information to the public.

In 1978, however, everything related to UFO sightings was carefully “pushed under the mat”.

Valentich found the unusual object above him very disturbing. All the more so because it played a game with him. It circled continuously above its Cessna and sometimes suddenly dived from left to right, or vice versa. Sometimes it disappeared altogether. Then to resurface him. Valentich was very concerned and, in an incipient panic, he quickly contacted David Craig, one of Melbourne's air traffic controllers.

“A vehicle in a unique shape is constantly circling above me. Does this plane have permission to fly here? Because I think this is really dangerous the way it does. Would you like to make contact with the pilot? Because it's a weird guy. It looks like he's playing a game with me. The vehicle flies extremely fast and can go in all directions. I didn't even know that there are such planes in Australia”
