Who was the first VEGAN?
This trend had its origin as such, in the 1940s the first character to emphasize this food trend was Donald Watson to differentiate itself from vegetarianism, making its conviction a lifestyle that led to the founding of one of the most important social movements in the 21st century.
The truth is that there is evidence of people who decided not to consume any type of animal product more than 2000 years ago. As early as Ancient Greece, Pythagoras advocated compassion towards the rest of the species and followed what could be described as a vegetarian diet. Buddha used to debate this type of diet and included it in his doctrine “ahimsa” (non-violence) as a fundamental step towards raising consciousness. Geniuses such as Albert Einstein, Nikola Tesla, Leonardo da Vinci and important literary figures such as Margaret Fuller or the Spanish playwright and poet Miguel de Cervantes also practiced vegetarianism and condemned animal sacrifice as a form of food.
