Good question! I think it's easy to open by holding it from all 4 corners.

They first tried square pizza's in round boxes but that didn't fit so they decided to make the pizza's round and the boxes square.

Maybe because round boxes are more difficult to manifacture and squares are easier :D. It requires more cutting and shaping.
Also some pizzas may fail in size and shape, and square boxes are flexible for when your pizza is slightly bigger or has more edges than it's supposed too. but hey i know nothing about pizza box making
