Why is there bubble in urine?

Bubble could appear in urine when there is fast stream of urine as a result of holding it too long in your bladder. Just like I always say, too much of everything is bad.

If you notice bubbles in your urine frequently it is recommended you go and see your doctor.
Besides this, there are medical conditions associated with foamy urine or bubbles in urine.

Causes of bubbles in urine

1. Urinating at a very fast rate quickly could lead to the formation of bubbles in your urine.

Also, the presence of surfactant in your urine could be the main cause of the foamy nature of your urine.
Surfactants here are organic substances in your urine.

Surfactant dissolves in water/liquids to form hydrophilic head and hydrophobic head.

This shows that they can easily trap tiny drops of air or gas in surface of liquid to form foams. Real life example of this is seen in soap which contains both hydrophilic head and hydrophobic tail  and foams in a unique way.

2. Dehydration
Not drinking enough water would leave you with highly concentrated urine which is dark brown in color.

The increases in concentration of your urine is as a result of high amount uric acid in the urine. Or not drinking the required amount of water.

Uric acid is the waste product of protein digestion. Since protein is a surfactant it tends to form foamy appearance in the concentrated urine.

3. Kidney disease
Discharging urine that is constantly foamy could be pointing to malfunctioning of your kidney. Seeing your doctor to ascertain the real cause is preferred when in doubt. 

 So he can prescribe medication for you. Kidney is an organ that is well known for removing protein from the blood. A healthy kidney does not allow protein to seep into the urine.
However, unhealthy kidney does.

when a protein called albumin is present in urine it is called albuminuria.

This causes urine to foam.
Studies shows that constant foamy nature of urine is an early symptom of kidney disease. Other symptoms are nausea, frequent urination, itching, swelling and unexplained tiredness.

Retrograde ejaculation
This is a condition,  though occurs rarely, whereby semen gets retracted into the bladder instead of being released.

The cause here could come from medication used in treating high blood pressure. Also it can happen due to multiple sclerosis, nerve damage, or spinal cord injury and diabetes.

Medication
Ingesting certain medicine could be the cause of a foamy urine. Some of such medicines are phenazopyridin usually taken as painkiller against urinary tract infection.
Some chemicals used in washing the toilet can make your urine foamy this may subside once the toilet is flushed.

Solutions to try out

Ensure to see your doctor once you notice bubbles in your urine consistently. So that he could diagnosed the real cause and have you placed on right medication.

However see a doctor when
The foamy urine persist for few days
You have symptoms of fatigue, nausea, swelling and lost of appetite
Your urine looks bloody or always dark brown.
