When a laptop will not connect to WiFi, you'll have fewer options for accessing the internet. Although WiFi is a highly easy way to connect to the internet, there are a number of things that can go wrong. These issues cause your connection to be slow, sometimes disrupted, or the machine to just refuse to connect. Here's what you can do if you're having trouble with one or even more of these problems.
Here are a few solutions for a laptop that won't connect to Wi-Fi:
Troubleshoot is the first solution.
You could use an automatic troubleshooting tool on a Windows PC to acquire a diagnosis of the problem you're having. Here's how to take advantage of it:
1. Make sure your laptop's WiFi is turned on.
Make sure the wireless activity light turns on or switches from red to white by pressing the wireless key or even the wireless button on the keyboard.
The wifi key is commonly located on one of the F keys or a key labeled with a WiFi icon or perhaps an aeroplane symbol on your keyboard.
If you don't notice a wireless key, the laptop may have one along with the ports and slots on one of its sides.
Reconnect to the wireless network after you've turned on the WiFi. If it works, you've solved your problem. Read on if you can't find the wifi key, the wireless activity light will not turn on, or even the problem persists after you've turned on the WiFi.
2. Click Start, then in the search field, type "troubleshooting."
3. Select Troubleshooting from the results by double-clicking it.
4. Select Network and Internet, choose Internet Connections from the drop-down menu.
5. Go to the Advanced tab.
6. If you see the option, select Run as Administrator.
7. Select Apply Repairs Automatically, then go to the next step. To continue, click Yes if the user account control popup displays.
8. Select Troubleshoot my Internet Connection and then Next. Follow the directions on the screen.
9. Let the troubleshooting process run its course. Examine the outcomes.
10. If the automatic troubleshooter discovers any issues, more information about them and what to do next will be displayed. If any measures are recommended, follow them and try re-connecting to the internet once more.
Close the window and proceed to the next step if the problem remains after being automatically resolved or after performing the advised actions.
If no issues are found but you still can't get online, close the window and proceed to the next step.
Fix 2: Make sure your hardware is up to date and reset it.
Resetting your laptop and any associated gear is sometimes the best answer.
Here's how you can do it:
1. Select Shut Down from the Start menu. This will turn off your computer.
2. Disconnect your laptop, wireless router, and/or wireless modem from the internet.
3. Wait for 10 to 30 seconds before reconnecting anything.
4. If the issue remains and no other devices are able to connect to a WiFi network, you should contact the Internet Service Provider.
