Why the baroque period was so important to music.
The word baroque comes from the Italian word “barocco” which means bizarre. This word was first used to describe the style of architecture, mainly in Italy in the 17th and 18th centuries. Later, the word Baroque was used to describe the musical styles of the 17th century. Among the composers of the time were among others Johann Sebastian Bach , George Frideric Handel and Antonio Vivaldi. This period saw the development of opera and instrumental music. This style of music immediately follows the Renaissance style of music and is a precursor to classical music style.
Baroque music
Usually the song wore a basso continuo group, which consisted of a chordplay instrumentalist such as a harpsichord or lute and bass-like instruments carrying the bass line, such as a cello or double bass. A characteristic baroque form was the dance suite . While the pieces in a dance suite were inspired by real dance music, dance suites were designed to listen, not for accompanying dancers. The Baroque period was a time when composers experimented with form, styles and instruments. The violin was also considered an important musical instrument during this time.
