Short video platform TikTok has registered its presence all across the globe and has become the first choice of youths all across the globe. The same popularity was seen in India also, even a major percentage of TikTok users were from India. Last year China tried to enter Indian territory in Galway Valley, after which violence erupted between Indian and Chinese soldiers. Many Indian soldiers were martyred in the violent clashes across LAC, and hundreds of Chinese killed. After this incident, various reports, researches, and studies were done by experts, intelligence agencies, and think tanks.
These researches, reports, and our intelligence agencies stated that various Chinese apps, including Tiktok, are stealing data of Indians and collecting information secretly through their platforms. This is not the first time when Chinese apps were accused of stealing data and collecting information from their users.
Tiktok was developed by a Chinese company: Bytedance and reports stated that it was backed by the Chinese government and the officials of the Chinese Communist Party(CCP). This is not a new case as every Chinese firm is backed by its government, and they have to share the user data of their platform with the Chinese officials regularly.
The presence of Chinese firms is increasing rapidly in India and across the globe, and today data is everything, and that's the reason why most of the cyber attacks were done by China, or there is a Chinese presence in such attacks.
After getting all details and inputs from the Indian cyber security team and Indian intelligence agencies, the Indian government has banned 59 Chinese apps, including Tiktok. The Indian government stated that they have banned these apps under Section 69(A) of the Information Technology Act, 2000 as these apps are posing a threat to India's security, sovereignty, and integrity.
Many experts and reports have revealed that Chinese apps collect users' data and secret information through their platforms, and the Chinese government was given full access to the data and information.
In India, millions of users have been using this app, and millions of videos are posted every day. From celebrities to famous personalities and from political personalities to common people, the user base of Tiktok in India was huge. So Tiktok was collecting secret information from millions of users, including famous personalities and VIPs.
The move was also seen as a befitting reply to China's aggression across LAC. Negative sentiments against China were high among the citizens, and the government's decision of banning apps has seen full support from netizens.
After the ban, Tiktok and other Chinese apps have suffered a loss of billions, and India's ban has badly affected the popularity of Tiktok worldwide.
