The warming and acidification of oceans, huge amounts of plastic soup and the creation of dead zones, large areas where (underwater) life is no longer possible. It is clear that the oceans and seas are not doing well. And that while they play a key role in the survival of the planet.

According to professor of political theory Chris Armstrong, governments are failing to combat these crises. He calls for a Blue New Deal: agreements to make the oceans healthy again and ensure a fairer distribution of economic resources from those oceans and seas.
