(wine) Barrel, Barrel Or Cask?

#VAT 😍 A barrel, barrel or keg is a usually #cilindrische construction of wood, plastic or metal in which food (e.g. sauerkraut) or liquids (e.g. beer) can be stored. Wooden barrels, as a rule, are not purely cylindrical, but more or less belly. They consist of shackles, which with the help of steel #hoepels be held together. Until the end of the 19th century, toes of hoops were used to hold the claws together. The production and maintenance of wooden barrels was the work of coopers. Previously, #houten barrels widely used because they took up little space apart and were easy to move once in use by rolling them.
In Europe, barrels have been widely used since the 3rd century. The Romans spread them across Europe after contact with the Gauls who used barrels instead of the Roman amphora.
A barrel for beer or wine is also called cask.
