Winter bloomers in the Kalmthout Arboretum
During our trip to the province of Antwerp, we visited one of the oldest tree and plant gardens in Flanders: the Arboretum in Kalmthout.
It's full of winter, so we didn't have great expectations for color.
In winter, we mainly think of bare trees and shrubs and little flowering.
But January is the month when the Hamamelis blooms.
This shrub loses its leaves in winter, but gets beautifully colored inflorescences on the bare branches in January.
