World Girls Day: 58 percent of girls victims of online harassment

Free to be Online ? of Plan International shows that 58 percent of all girls aged between 15 and 25 have to deal with online harassment. Victims experience range from derogatory remarks to the threat of rape.Plan calls on social media companies to take online harassment seriously.
The study was carried out in the context of World Girls Day on 11 October, a day designated by the United Nations to raise awareness of girls' rights and opportunities. We interviewed 14,071 girls and young women aged 15-25 from 32 countries, including Australia, Brazil, Benin, Indonesia, Sudan, the United States and India. In the Netherlands, a thousand girls and young women participated, of which 58 percent also have experience in online harassment.

Why no other people but the Dutch go so uninhibited in the anonymity of the internet. During the sillings, a slightly sterile rest prevailed. But bubble democracy is the domain of irritable, impatient people with questions they prefer to answer themselves.
