Since 1979, on 24 April, the worldwide attention has been given to animal experiments and laboratory animals every year. Of course, World Animal Animal Day is also an important day for us. Around 450,000 animals are used each year in the Netherlands as laboratory animals
90% of animal experiments produce nothing for humans at all
88% of animal experiments have a lethal outcome
Animal testing is done on mice, dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, gerbils, monkeys, fish, ferrets and agricultural animals, among others
There are more and more alternatives available that also provide better and more reliable results for people.
Every laboratory animal is one too many. It's time for an end to this animal suffering.

Animal testing is necessary for scientific research and education, but we are working hard to accelerate the transition to animal-free innovation. Social and scientific relevance, quality of science and Open Science are central to this. We have put together the interdisciplinary working group TPI Utrecht, which stimulates the transition by giving advice (to researchers and administrators), forging networks, teaching and organizing creative workshops (helpathons).

Utrecht University and UMC Utrecht will discuss animal testing with society. This spring is expressed in two debates, one aimed at young adults, in collaboration with Pint of Science , and one aimed at professionals. Both activities are open to anyone who has an interest in the topic.
