Today I'm taking you back to my parents' garden.
Today's flower always causes me both to long back for my holidays in beautiful Switzerland, and to have a song in my head...
I'm talking about Edelweiss.
Edelweiss has become very rare in the wild, this is due to the many hikers, and mountaineers who picked the Edelweiss during their tours in the mountains. Edelweiss originates at a higher altitude in the mountains, as a rock plant.
During my holidays and walks I have seen it a few times, photographed it, and walked on.
If you try to pick the flower, you risk a (rightly) hefty fine!
In the Netherlands, Edelweiss is grown, and is as beautiful as the plant in the mountains, although it may feel different.
At the very least, you miss the feeling of having to make an effort to find the plant.
The (cultivated) Edelweiss blooms from June to August, and loves poor, calcareous soil.

joh is dit Edelweiss ik heb er een heel ander beeld van. Maar hij is super mooi maar goed dat ie nu beschermd is.
