Yoors Flower Parade, day 39

Today at the Flower Parade I'm taking you back to Thailand.
One of the beautiful flowers I saw in Thailand was the Lotus flower.

Official name is: Nelumbo nucifera. She is also called Holy Lotus or Indian Lotus.
This Lotus flower is a pink aquatic plant that symbolizes Divine birth and purity in Buddhism.
The Thai love it! At almost every temple, you see Lotus flowers, as a sacrifice.

The Lotus flower is pink, and a tight flower.
After flowering, the plant makes seed pods, which resemble a wasp's nest.
The flowers of the Lotus can grow huge, just like the leaf.

The Lotus flower makes huge rhizomes, often larger than the plant itself. It may also be that your pond is full of roots, while you hardly see a flower.
Special about the leaf of the Lotus flower is that it is self-cleaning: the leaves contain a dust that prevents dirt from adhering to it.
This is called the Lotus effect (with my car wash they also have a Lotus wax treatment)

I didn't take enough pictures of it (I think afterwards), nor did I make the best pictures (but yes, then I did not make a flower parade; -)), but after a comment by @marijke I want to show them here anyway.
Note: some call a water lily a lotus flower, but you'll see: that's a very different flower, the leaf is also different in shape.

I love your flower parade series! And what a neat little coincidence, that I just made a post with a photo of lotus flowers as well. I had actually included the wrong name in English (water lilies), though, so I corrected the reference based on your note. Thank you! 🙂

@Adriana thank you so much! Good to read you like my series. I had a look at your post, and those are actually water lillies 😁. Look at the leaves. Water lillie leaves are round. Holy Lotus leaves are triangular (I will mention this in my blog as well). Nice pictures!
