When I walked with my father in his garden, and saw this flower, I cried, “I know it!
That's the Crocosmia, he's just something different in color than ours...

That turned out to be right.
This is a Crocosmia, nowadays also called Montbretia.
But I can't call this Crocosmia Montbretia, because it is the oldest species.

This is how Crocosmias are supposed to look, this is the real one, from the past.
Okay, Dad, this is the real, original Crocosmia, the “Wilhelmientje”.
Modern Crocosmias are brighter in color, often you can see the “Lucifer”, bright red.
I already put her in the flower parade once, and blogged about it.

Crocosmias are tuber crops, which bloom in July-August.
The flowers are placed one after the other in long ears, a bit like a Freesia, but are much larger.
After flowering, the Crocosmia makes seed boxes on the spikes where the flowers were.
Crocosmias often become large, you can easily split the plant, preferably at the end whetherOctober, early November.

So below: the Wilhelmientje!

You can find more crocosmia here whether here .
