Today in the Flower Parade: my favorite winter plant: the Witch Hazel!
When I went to live in my current home (the first house with a garden) I had one wish: I wanted a Witch Hazel in the garden.
The official name is Hamamelis, by the way.

A witch hazel conjures in winter, between December and March.
In that period when it is cold, and virtually nothing grows and blooms because all plants are at rest, this plant comes with its flowers:
These are usually bright, or reddish-brown in color.

My father (who else), arrived with a Witch Hazel, the first time he visited our house.
Unfortunately, the plant does not like clay soil and/or sea air, and did poorly.
So we quickly returned the plant to my father, and now it's shining in the old nursery.

I get an occasional branch for the vase.
One of those branches I photographed, and even painted with the beeswax.
The Witch Hazel has small flowers with yellow elongated leaves.
The stamens are virtually impossible to see.

By the way, it is a cultivated plant that only existed since the thirties of the last century.

prachtig...de echt en jouw schilderij. Als tak heb ik hem weleens bij een tuincentrum of bloemenwinkel zien staan.
