Fabric softener is often used with every wash. Your clothes will smell good and it will make it soft. But what you probably don't dwell on is that you shouldn't use fabric softener with everything. There are a number of things you should not use softener:

Sportswear

Sportswear is often made of material that absorbs sweat quickly. If you are going to wash sportswear with fabric softener, this will ensure that it will lay a layer over it. This again causes the absorbent property of the fabric to fade.

Jeans

Do not use fabric softener for jeans. It doesn't make the fabric better. You better use a little vinegar.

Fireproof fabrics

Many pajamas are made from fire proof fabrics. The use of fabric softener makes the fabrics more flammable. So don't use this.

Towels

If you wash your towels with fabric softener, they feel nice and soft to the touch. But your towels will be less likely to adsorb.
