Your musical taste depends on how #empathisch you are.
Do you care more about rules and order, or prefer thoughts and emotions? Depending on how you answer this, a group of psychologists from the University of Cambridge will tell you that this is related to your music taste.
Music Preferences
As reported by their recent study published in the journal PLOS ONE , those who understand the feelings of others better prefer romantic, relaxing music such as soft rock and a little R&B, while those who focus on the small details of things often listen to more technical and complex music, such as traditional jazz. There is no doubt that music and the way we think and behave are inextricably linked. Last year, research found that practicing music makes communication between the left and right hemispheres of the brain stronger and more efficient. This new study is part of an ongoing effort to improve the psychology of the understand music preference and focuses on whether this is more focused on being empathetic or logic and reason.
