The habitability and livability of our country is largely determined by the protection of dunes and dikes and, last but not least, by water control. Water drainage is of vital importance. In addition to draining excess water naturally, grinding and ground have been indispensable since the early Middle Ages. First put simple instruments in motion by man, animal or wind; from around 1750 onwards, more and more advanced mechanized and automated installations, large and small, of which around 4500 are currently doing their work in our country.
