8 Augustus International Cat Day
International Cat Day is a party that takes place every year on August 8. It was founded in 2002 by the International Animal Welfare Fund. It's a day to raise awareness for cats and learn about ways to help and protect. In 2020, International Cat Day management was handed over to International Cat Care, [3] a British non-profit organization that has been committed to improving the health and well-being of domestic cats worldwide since 1958.
It exists because a group of very passionate cat lovers, led by Joan Judd, decided to deal with the abominable lack of information about cat health and well-being. At that time, cats died of infectious diseases, were treated as small dogs by veterinarians, and the quality of the guest houses and rescue facilities was pity. Over the last 60 years, International Cat Care has tested attitudes to cats and campaigning for better care at all levels.
There are several reasons too devising why cats are such a success on the internet. Watching cat videos makes many people feel good and helps relieve stress. People (especially nerdy people) like to recognize themselves in the character they attribute to cats: sovereign, smart, inscrutable, fighting the limitations of life, not so sociable and less submissive than dogs. Dog people meet outside; cat people meet inside, on the internet. But that's all post-hoc reasoned. Cats have fascinated people for centuries, also offline. And why?? There will always be a little mystery about the question, just like cats themselves.
