Kefalonia is a beautiful Greek island, where nature still prevails and animals and plants seem to exist freely.

The coastline is beautiful, but occasionally you come to a spot that has just that little bit extra.

Assos is located on a mountain flank, near a peninsula on the west coast.

The village experienced many setbacks. A massive earthquake in 1953 and 2014 left very little of all buildings on the entire island. But Assos was once again unlucky in September 2020.

A cyclone with heavy rainfall caused a mudslide that flowed from the mountain flanks and dragged stones and boulders with it. Everything ended up in the village. Cars were buried under a layer of stones, houses were flooded. For those who want to visualize it: here you will find images.

I believe I would go more for the ruin: wonderful how nature takes it back!
@Encaustichris Yes, and probably also a few earthquakes. The villages were rebuilt, but I think they didn't have the courage before the ruin. The island is not super touristy either, so it is not exploited as they would in many places.
