List of autoimmune diseases and what they consist of

  • Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) : In this disease, the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissue. This can affect various parts of the body such as the skin, joints, kidneys, brain, and other organs.
  • Detected autoimmune disorders caused by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection are also considered in this list. Since infection with HIV causes the destruction of the immune system resulting in damage to various systems and tissues of the organ.
  • Anterior uveitis: It is an autoimmune or inflammatory infection that occurs in the anterior chamber of the eyeball, of which the cause can often not be identified, but can be severe and cause permanent vision loss.
  • Sjögren's syndrome: The immune system mistakenly damages parts of your own body, especially the glands that produce tears and saliva. This results in dry mouth and dry eyes. Especially dryness in other organs that need moisture, such as the nose, throat, and skin.
  • Ankylosing spondylitis: It is an inflammatory disease that over time may cause some small bones in the spine (vertebrae) to fuse together. This fusion makes the spine less flexible and can result in a slouched forward posture.
  • Reactive arthritis: It is a disease that causes muscle pain and inflammation that trigger an infection in parts of the body, especially the intestines, genitals, or urinary tract. Reactive arthritis usually attacks the knees and joints of the ankles and feet. Inflammation also affects the eyes, skin, and urethra.
  • Rheumatoid arthritis: It is a form of arthritis that causes pain, swelling, stiffness, and loss of function in the joints. This can affect any joint, but mainly in the wrists and fingers.
  • Type 1 diabetes: In type 1 diabetes, the immune system damages and destroys insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, these cells regulate sugar in the body.
  • Psoriasis: It directly affects the skin as it causes red, scaly spots that itch and cause pain, are most evident on the knees, elbows, trunk and scalp.
  • Multiple sclerosis: It is a disease of the nervous system that directly affects the brain and spinal cord. Injures the myelin sheath, it is a substance that surrounds and protects nerve cells. The injury slows down or blocks messages between the brain and the body.
  • Addison's disease: It is a disease of adrenal insufficiency, it is a rare disorder that occurs when the body does not produce enough of certain hormones. The adrenal glands, located just above the kidneys, produce almost no cortisol and consequently very little aldosterone.
  • Autoimmune hepatitis: It is inflammation or condition of the liver, because it occurs when the body's immune system attacks liver cells.
  • Vasculitis: It is an inflammation of the blood vessels, where it thickens the walls of such vessels, which reduces the width for blood conduction, and because of this it is affected the organs and tissues can be damaged.
  • Myasthenia gravis: This disease affects nerve impulses that allow the brain to control muscle movements. When the communication of nerves to the muscles is impaired, the muscles do not contract due to the inability of signals.
  • Immune thrombocytopenia: It is a disorder that consequently allows bruising and bleeding to occur. Bleeding is caused by unusually low levels of platelets, the cells that help blood clot.

It is interesting to know the different types of immune diseases, for me it was an experience doing this research.

Especially because it made me reflect on what those who have this suffer from, so let's take care of ourselves and become aware.
