Before and after from the herb cabinet...

Any cook will agree... herbs and spices are extremely important in the kitchen and I'm not just talking about salt and pepper...

The basis is of course important but with a little smoked paprika powder or a pinch of cinnamon, a hint of breed el hanout or a sprig of rosemary, a scoop of tarragon or some chives you can turn a dish into a real taste sensation... or how about a little lavender or a leaf of Laurel... Delicious, right?

Very nice all but meanwhile my kitchen cupboard is bulging out of the herbs and there is little left of a logical arrangement... My chaotic head also ensures that I already have 3 different jars of some herbs and from other herbs every trace is missing... So it's time for a thorough cleaning up of my closet and an inventory of what I have in herbs or no longer have...

The notorious herb cabinet... for the big cleaning...

I really freaked out what came out of that closet...

Where shall I start and how am I going to get it all back in the closet?

The different jars are given a letter on which the contents can be read...

The most commonly used herbs come on the bottom shelf...

Within your reach is so convenient...

A shelf higher come the herbs that are also widely used but more in specific dishes...

And up there we put the spice mixes...

With this as the final result...

And an extra bowl with commonly used daily herbs and oils next to the stove...

And now look forward to spring... when I build another herb garden on my terrace...
