BLACKPINK... have you heard of them? Who are they? What are they doing? ... You are at the right blog!

BLACKPINK is currently the K-POP (Korean pop) phenomenon and the biggest girl group that has existed. With an average of half a billion views per music video on YouTube, they are the most subscribed artist (52 million) on the platform.

What is K-POP?It is a music genre that (duh) comes from South Korea. Their entertainment plays an immense role in their culture and everyday life. Both music and film are immensely popular there - they are also appreciated all over the world. Millions are invested by production companies and record companies in making music. Usually the formula is a boy group or a girl group. Why? With more you are stronger and different 'roles' can be filled in. Per group you often have one or more vocalists, but also rappers and dancers. Of course every member can do anything, but often the best and the strongest in his profession gets the title of, for example, 'main dancer' because you can see that he is still on a different level. K-POP is known for its immensely expensive music videos, immensely beautiful people and the catchy music. Of course, it's very commercial. That's what you have to be for. I personally am a huge fan of such music. On top of that, every song also has its own full dance, so every performance on TV will also contain that choreography. That is always looking forward to what new choreography is made up and how it fits with the music. K-POP compared to Western pop I personally find much more interesting, because there is a lot more to it. Great music videos, full choreographies, expensive outfits, and so on. There is no dancing and singing in the West at the same time at the level that is the standard in South Korea. All K-POP “idols” have had years of training in their own entertainment company. Day in and day out fierce competition between “trainees” with all day lessons singing, dancing, English,... Emotionally very heavy.

BLACKPINK?My personal favorites and the group for which I would go through the fire... Consisting of Jennie (Z-Korea, rapper /vocalist), Lisa (Thailand, dancer/rapper), Rosé (New Zealand, vocalist) and Jisoo (Z-Korea, vocalist /visual). The name is a contraction of the colors BLACK and PINK. It stands for duality - on the one hand their bad-ass, rugged, you m'en fous silk, on the other hand their playful cute side. Furthermore, they are also known for their trap/hip-hop-based music. A sound that is not often associated with female artists. It is a surprise for many people when they listen to a BLACKPINK song for the first time, since it is not something you would expect. Personally, I really love it. Ever since I discovered the ladies two years ago, I couldn't live without it. Every day I listen 100 times their songs and I definitely watch different videos on YouTube. It's quite an occupation...

My favorite song? How You Like That - clearly their BLACK side, where the (girl) power jumps off. This is also the song that 84 million viewers had on YouTube within the first 24 hours and broke the record at that time. (tip: on YouTube you can always turn on subtitles in English at K-POP)

Their most recent song Lovesick Girls from their first official album “THE ALBUM” is also a banger. Less their BLACK silk, but more their PINK silk. Beautiful dance, video and song!

A favourite in terms of performance of their new album is Pretty Savage. The name can be compared to the duality of BLACKPINK. Pretty is often associated with something cute, beautiful, fine, while Savage stands for wild and crazy. No one does it like the girls in this type of concept. Again a power song with a choreography that radiates girlpower.
