CARBON CAPTURE

Nature can play an important role in regulating carbon dioxide (CO2). By capturing carbon from CO2 in the soil and in the plants itself, nature itself contributes to a better climate.

But hey, that's the normal situation: the CO2 cycle in nature is balanced, it's industrialization that caused this natural balance to be disturbed. Strange story so actually

Nature in the Netherlands captures 2.7 megatons of Carbon. This sounds very nice of course, but unfortunately that is less than 1.5 percent of the Dutch emissions!

In addition, there is a problem because the groundwater level is deliberately kept low for agriculture! This results in Oxidation of the stored Carbon in the soil. Oxygen is added and carbon dioxide is formed again, which disappears into the air! This process is particularly evident in the peat areas, where in the past a lot of carbon capture has taken place!
