Receive the common names of cardón brought from the city of punta cardón. Punta Cardón is currently a City, located in the southwest of the Paraguaná peninsula and belongs to the Punta Cardón Parish of the Carirubana municipality of Falcón state. It is one of the oldest sectors of the PARAGUANA Peninsula and Falcon State, having even longer been founded than the City of Punto Fijo. Previously, this region consisted of the Caquetia Ethnicity, among which were “Los Guaranaos”. In the year 1600 to 1700 there was what is now called Punta Cardón; that name derives from the qualifier that the region had that is to say they called it the tip of the cardón because there were only cardons, tunas, and cujíes as native flora of the place. They are fast-growing columnar and branched cactus that can exceed 10 meters in height. The stem has 5 to 9 well-marked ribs, is teal in its youth (then turns light green) and has areolas with brown thorns. The eye-catching flowers measure up to 16 cm in diameter, are white and open at night and in the early hours of the day. They bloom during the summer once the plant is over 4 years old. Finally they produce fruits from which we can obtain seeds.

They are used in pots for terraces and patios, such as indoor plants, in cactus and succulent gardens and to form informal hedges or barriers. It is believed to absorb electromagnetic radiation by placing it next to the computer screen. The best exhibition for Cereus peruvianus is in full sun, although you can live in semi-shade or indoors near a window. It is not advisable to expose it to temperatures below 7 °C, although it could withstand some weak frost if the earth is well dry. A winter rest at about 10-12 °C is suitable for you.
