#RUINE 😍 Toutenburg is a medieval castle in the Dutch town of Vollenhove. It was built around 1500.

The castle was built for Georg Schenck van Toutenburg, a nobleman from Tautenburg in Thuringia, who was named Schout of Vollenhove. He was married to damsel Anna de Vos van Steenwijck, who died in 1526, and from his second marriage to Joanna van Egmond, son Carel was born. Georg Schenck van Toutenburgh died in 1540, after which the castle became the property of Carel and after his death became the property of Georg's older brother Frederik. After Frederik's death in 1580, it came into the hands of the genera Van Haersolte and Van Boetselaer.
In the 18th century, the building fell into disrepair, leaving only a ruin. A model of the original castle can be seen in the Culture Historic Centre of Vollenhove. There are also various remains, including building elements, pottery and the wind vane of the tower.
