Cheerful scarecrows crafting for the vegetable garden
At a nice elementary school in Ede, they know what to do with naughty birds! To their vegetable garden a long scarecrow wire is stretched from beer caps and straws. The tomatoes and other vegetables in the vegetable garden are intended for the children, and not for small birds, however sweet they may be. Of course, these rattling chasing garlands are made by the children themselves!
It's very simple to do, actually it's just stringing. For the toddlers, the holes in the caps were pre-drilled and the straws were pre-cut. The older children were allowed to drill the holes themselves with a small cordless drill and cut the straws themselves.
-
Each take a long piece of rope and make a loop, on which the first beer cap will rest
-
Tie around cap, straw, cap, straw
-
Are you at the end of the rope? Make a big button plus behind the last beer cap
- Make the pieces of rope together with paper clips
The garlands can hang vertically (e.g. on branches), but also horizontally. Then insert some sticks or poles into the ground and attach the garlands to it. Because of the rattling, wapper and the movement of the garlands (by a bit of wind), the birds do not dare to come close!
