Collages about winter in the Netherlands.
At my work in the residential care centre we have 9 exchange lists for a long bald corridor that I filled with pictures on the theme holiday in the Netherlands for our holiday month. After they had hung for about 3 months it was time to make other collages. And for that, the theme of winter seemed appropriate. After some brainstorming and searching on Pinterest and Google, I had 9 topics and lots of pictures. With a resident I went into the village to buy some rolls of wrapping paper for the backgrounds.

For this first collage I have chosen as the subject of transport. Because if it winters well and there is plenty of snow and ice, then you can of course also with the sleigh. The whole of the Netherlands binds the skates under and grabs the snowplow. And for a really harsh winter you soon reach 1963, when you could get on the ice by car and even the North Sea was frozen.

And what seemed to me to be an important subject was sport. Several photos of old skating heroes and heroines were, of course, among them. Photos of the tour of the tours could not be missing. But the ice sailing and sledding are also real winter sports.

And what kind of clothes were they wearing to keep a little warm with the freezing cold? Self-knitted sweaters, scarves and hats. I still see my grandmother knitting socks for my dad. And for the winter holiday you had a hip ski suit. There was still a lot of self-sewn clothes in the past. That's why I used cog patterns as background. I put the picture of the lady with the sleeve, because there are still several residents who remember that.

Of course, the houses also need to be heated. We're facing a big change again, we need to get rid of the gas. But this is not the first time we have faced such a change. I found this interesting to show together in this collage. How coal was switched to petroleum, oil, gas heaters. And we got central heating. And so much fun that I found an advertisement for an electric blanket.
