Today is the tenth day and most auspicious day in year for Nepalese.

Dashain(Bijaya Dashami) is a fifteen days long festival originated from Nepal and it is also celebrated in few parts of India. It is the greatest and longest festival of Nepalese and celebrated by Nepalese all over the world.

Mythology

Dashain is celebrated on the auspicious occasion of Good wins over Evil. According to our hindu Mythology, Goddess Durga won over the most notorious demon called Mahishashura of devaloka(or heaven). The festival represents the battle between them. The tenth day is where she finally defeated him and its called 'Bijaya Dashami' where Bijaya means victorious and Dashami means tenth day.

Important days

Out of the fifteen days, few stands out from the rest and the important days are:

 •First day(Ghatasthapana):

This day marks the start of festival with holy rituals inside the temple by a selected priest and by elder at our own homes. Barley and maize seeds are sown in a seperate sacred leaf-plates and kept at dark. It will help them to grow as saplings(Jamara) which is used in tenth day.
