A book that I highly recommend is this “Death on the Nile", is by my favorite writer Agatha Christie.

Synopsis:

Linnet Doyle has it all: beauty, wealth, love... And a trip through the Nile to enjoy your honeymoon. But, after this apparent fullness, many dangers stalk her: her friend's uncontrollable jealousy, the economic interests of her guardians, the ambition of jewel thieves... Little by little, crime is emerging as inevitable, and Linnet appears murdered in her cabin.
Poirot, who thought to spend a few days on vacation on the Nile, will be involved in this peculiar case where more of a dark matter will come to light, but in which there is also a place for happy events.

Chapter 1

“Linnet Ridgeway!
“She's herself! “said Mr. Burnaby, owner of “The Three

Crowns", addressing his partner.

They were both staring, with their eyes forming a circle and

the mouth slightly ajar.

A red and winding Rolls Royce had just stopped in front of the office

local Post Office.

A girl got off the car, a girl touched in a hat

and wearing a dress that seemed — just seemed — very simple. An

girl with golden hair and authoritarian features. A girl of shapes

enchanting. A girl like few looked at Malton-Under-Wode.

With an imperious step he entered the post office.

“It's her! “said Mr. Burnaby again. And he continued quietly,

in a confidential tone...: It has millions...! Thousands and thousands will be spent here

dollars. Will build swimming pools, Italian gardens and a dance hall. Will do

knock down half the house and build it again.

“He will bring money into the city," his partner said.

This was a skinny guy.. He spoke with grumpy tone in which he was warned

some envy.

Mr. Burnaby seemed to be very pleased.

“Yes, it's lucky for Malton-Under-Wode. Great luck.

Mr. Burnaby nodded, moving his head.

“What a difference with Sir George! “cried the other.
“The horses were to blame," said his companion, with indulgence.

—. He never got lucky.

How much was he spent on this?

“Barely about 60,000 dollars, they say.

The thin man let a whistle escape.

“And she is assured that she will have spent sixty thousand before she was finished.

- Damn it! “said the thin man. Where did you get so much

money?

“From America, from what I've heard. Her mother was the only daughter of one of

those rude millionaires. Like in the movies, you know?

The girl left the post office and got in the car.

The thin man devoured her with his gaze while she embarked on the

march, and murmured between teeth:

“I don't think it's fair that she's so beautiful.. Money and beauty... it's too much.

When a young woman is as rich as that, she has no right to be beautiful at the same time

time... and she's beautiful at the same time... and she's really beautiful...

It's got everything a woman could want... it's not fair!

Excerpt from the daily blague company page:

“Among those attending the dinner at “Chez Ma Tante" I had occasion to admire

the beauty of Linnet Ridgeway. Next to her were the distinguished Miss Juana.

Southwood, Lord Windleshaw and Mr. Tobias Bryce. Miss Ridgeway,

as no one ignores, she is the daughter of Melhuish Ridgeway and Ana Hartz. Inherits from

his grandfather, Leopoldo Hartz, an immense fortune. The lovely Linnet is the

feeling of the moment; it is rumored that soon a courtship will be made public.

Lord Windleshaw seemed, indeed, very excited!"

The distinguished Miss Juana Southwood said:

“Darling, I think all this is going to be just wonderful.

I was sitting in Linnet Ridgeway's bedroom in Wode Hall.. From

the window looked at the gardens at his feet, and beyond, there was the countryside

open framed by blue shadows of forests.

“This is great, isn't it? “said Linnet.

He leaned his arms on the window sill. I had an expression

burning, vivaracha, dynamic. Next to her, Juana Southwood seemed, in a way.

mode, something obscured. She was a young lady, twenty-seven years old, with a face

long and clever and capriciously depilated eyebrows.
“And have you done all this in such a short time? You will have employed a great

number of architects and also...

-Three.

— How are the architects? I don't think I've seen any.

—They were fine.. Sometimes I found them impractical.

“Darling. You're lovely! You're practical!

Juana took a string of pearls from the dressing table.

“I guess they'll be real, right, Linnet? "

Naturally.

“This will seem natural to you, my dear, but not to everyone.. By

a lot of culture they possess or even if they were called Woolworth. My friend,

it seems amazing that they are so artistically united. Must be worth a fortune

fabulous.

“About fifty thousand pounds sterling at the most.

“That's a pretty important amount. Aren't you afraid you'll be

steal?

—No. I always carry them on... plus they're insured.

Let me show them at the food. Do you want, darling?

Linnet sketched a smile.

—Naturally. If you like this...

- You know, Linnet? I envy you, really. You've got everything you got

antoja. I am here at the age of twenty, absolute owner of your own actions, with

all the money you want, beauty and superb health. You've even got talent!

When do you turn twenty-one?

—Next June. I'm having a birthday party in London.

The phone rang and Linnet came in a hurry.

“Say...! Say!

“Miss Bellefort wishes to speak to you. Did you pass the

communication?

Bellefort... Oh, of course you do!

I heard a snap and immediately afterwards a voice of burning tone,

sweet and hasty, she was heard.

“Hey...! Is this Miss Ridgeway? Oh, Linnet?
Jacqueline, dear...! I haven't known anything about you for a century.

“Indeed, dear friend... it's terrible what happens to me! I have to

see you immediately!

- Can't you come here? I want to show you a new toy.

“I would like it very much.

“Well, whenever you want, by train... by car.

—I'll be right away. I have a pretty used two seats. I bought it for

fifteen pounds and there are days when it's going great. But it has its oddities.

If I haven't come to tea time, my car has had one of its oddities.

See you later, dear!

Linnet hung up receiver. He came back with Juana.

“This is my old friend Jacqueline de Bellefort. We were together in a

school, in Paris. He's always had a terrible bad luck.. His father is a

French count, his American mother... from the South. Then his parent ran away with

another woman and her poor mother lost every penny in the bankruptcy of

Wall Street. Jacqueline was completely ruined. I don't know how

will have arranged to spend these two years.

Juana was busy polishing her nails in a bloody red color with the

her friend's polissoir. He went back on the chair, with his hand extended,

to contemplate the effect of his work.

“Darling," he said, dragging the words, “Don't you think that's it.

would immediately abandon. At first glance it seems inhuman, but it avoids us

a large number of future inconvenience. Then they'd borrow money or you

would escort them to a fashion store where you would have no choice

what to pay for the suits they chose. Or they would paint horrible screens that you

would you be obliged to acquire. Or they'd make you knitted ties.

“Then if I lost my money... would you abandon me tomorrow

same?

“Yes, my dear, I would. You can't say I'm not frank! I just like

the people who triumphs. And the same thing happens to everyone, with the difference of

that they are more hypocrites and they don't want to confess. They say, for example, that

can't stand up to Maria, Emilia or Pamela anymore. His sufferings

They make them so bitter and so peculiar... Poor girl!

“How cruel you are, Juana!

“I'm positive, like everyone else.
“I'm not positive.

—You have your reasons. There is no reason to be mean when you are

they have young and good looking proxies who send you your huge income

every four months.

“And you're wrong about Jacqueline," Linnet said.. She's not

has allowed it. She's as proud as the devil.

“But now I was in such a hurry to talk to you! I'd bet he's going to ask you

any! You'll see it.

“She seemed excited about something," said Linnet.. Jacqueline has been

always excessively impulsive. He once nailed a feather cutter to someone.

“Darling, that's great!

“It was a boy who martyred a poor dog. Jacqueline tried

convince him to leave the bastard animal alone. He didn't listen to him.

Then she pushed him with all his might, but he surpassed her in force and

did not yielded. Then Jacqueline pulled out a feather cutter and nailed it to the

hilt. It was a horrific scene.

“That's what I was going to tell you. The girl looks dangerous!

Linnet's maiden entered the room. Mumbling a few words

For an excuse, he took a dress from the closet and came out again.

What's wrong with Maria? “asked Juana.. Looks like he's been.

crying.

“Poor thing. Didn't I tell you I wanted to marry an individual who had a

it is convenient to make sure of your good intentions. Well, I did practice

inquiries and it turns out that the little angel was already married and had three children.

“How many enemies you must have, Linnet!

Enemies? “Linnet seemed surprised.

Juana insisted with a head move and took a cigarette.

“Enemies dear! You're so devastatingly smart! Besides

You're excessively kind and you do all the good deeds you can.

Linnet is a wholeheartedly river.

“I don't have a single enemy in the whole world!

Lord Windleshaw was sitting under the cedar in the garden. Your eyes

caressed the funny proportions of Wode Hall. There was nothing that contrasted unpleasantly in its old-style lines. The buildings

new and the widens were out of sight to rise on the other side of the

corner. It constituted a peaceful and beautiful vision bathed in the light of a sun of

autumn. However, looking at him, he didn't seem to see Wode Hall. What

admired Carlos Windleshaw was a magnificent mansion of pure style

Elizabethan, with a large park and a very gloomy background...

his family's habitual residence, Charltonbury, and in the foreground stood out

the figure of a girl with shiny hair golden color and an expression

Burning and confident... Linnet would be the owner of Charltonbury!

He was very hopeful... his refusal had not been definitive... it was so

Just a deadline request... well, I could expect something else.

How convenient everything was for him! He was undoubtedly married for money,

but it was not so necessary that he had to postpone all that his

own feelings. Besides, I loved Linnet.. I would have wished to make her her

wife, even if she was a beggar instead of being the woman most

rich from england. But luckily she was the richest woman in the Kingdom

United... His brain was constantly drawing up plans for the future.. Maybe it would arrive

to own the county of Rozdale, would restore the entire right wing of the building, no

would need to rent his hunting grounds from Scotland...

Carlos Windleshaw dreamed of the sun...

It was four o'clock when the rickety two seats stopped with

a noise of crushed sand. A girl jumped out of the car, a creature

slender, elegant, with a large dark hair. He hastily climbed the

steps and called the bell.

A few minutes later she was taken to the sumptuous cabinet and a

ecclesiastical butler announced with serious intonation:

Miss Bellefort!

- Linnet!

Jacqueline!

Windleshaw turned aside, observing with sympathy that figurine

proud that she threw her arms open on Linnet.

Lord Windleshaw... Miss Bellefort... my best friend.

A cute creature, he thought... not pretty, actually, but

decidedly attractive with that bush of dark and curly hair and those

huge eyes. He murmured a few courteous nighthouses and left, to

leave them alone. Jacqueline sounded a chestañeta... a gesture that according to

Linnet remembered it, he was characteristic.
