Dirty boxes versus Clean Fifteen 2020: which fruits and vegetables contain the most and least pesticides?
Every year, in February, EWG (Environmental Working Group) publishes a list of fruits and vegetables that contain the most pesticides. They rely on data from the Department of Agriculture in America. The EWG is a non-profit association based in America and is committed to the use of toxic chemicals in consumer matters, such as food and care products, and drinking water pollution. -> Visit their website HERE. Two years ago I posted a blog here with the 'Dirty Dozen of 2018'.
I was wondering if much has changed in the meantime.
If I compare the latest list, the one from February 2020, with the one from 2018, unfortunately little has changed. On place 3, however, there is a newcomer: kale. The order of all other fruits and vegetables has remained unchanged. Only the sweet pointed pepper has disappeared from place 12 due to the arrival of kale.
It is a bit sad, when you realize that little has actually changed in those two years and that, despite the attention paid to the use of chemicals in agriculture, there is still unabated spraying with harmful substances.
And what about the 'Clean Fifteen'? The counterpart to the Dirty Dozen. The list of the least pesticides. This is what it looked like in 2018:
