After all the misery about the extraction of natural gas in #groningen , where people have hardly been helped or compensated, our Mark thought it would be a good idea to put down a nuclear power plant there. Well, if you want to demolish a county, do it right at once.. No, apparently that was not his thought but precisely because Groningen is the province par excellence due to. the energy transition; that was the thought. At least if we can trust our MP (to be).

So it turns out that some politicians have no idea what's going on or they totally lack tact, empathy and/or interest. And it's so unfortunate all! While people are displacing themselves for a house in the west, for an apartment of 30 square meters for €1500, - in the month, Drenthe but especially Friesland and Groningen are almost empty. Infinite glances over meadows and landscapes. But there are hardly any decent roads. When I go to Veendam, I have to cross a single lane motorway. It is almost not possible to overtake.

And now comes “The chicken or the egg”... There is no investment in infrastructure because that is not commercially interesting. Companies are not going to settle there because there is no decent infrastructure. People do not want to live there because - next to the earthquakes - there is no infrastructure and no work. Hopefully there is finally someone in The Hague who realizes that you have to start something, then the rest will follow.

Although I am not at home, Groningen seems to me to be the perfect place for another port. Perhaps smaller than Rotterdam but I think that should be possible. We probably import or export some from or to Russia or Scandinavian countries. And facing the north-west of Germany, that must also offer opportunities.

One day it may be discovered that the Netherlands does not have 9 provinces but 12 provinces..

Do the northern provinces still count?
