Melanie Daniels finds out, after a chance meeting in San Francisco, that Mitch Brenner's sister Cathy's birthday. Out of fascination with the man, she decides to present two dwarf parrots and personally bring them to Mitch's house. Mitch is a lawyer and lives with his mother and sister in Bodega Bay on weekends.

Melanie rents a boat to go unobtrusively to the Brenners' house. During her trip on the lake, she is attacked by a seagull. The incident is soon forgotten, but when the local school is also attacked by crows, panic arises.

Melanie's staying with the Brenners, while Mitch tries to lock all the windows and doors. Hundreds of birds gather and storm the Brenner's house at night. The door and windows are destroyed by the birds and some gulls even get into the house. After a while it seems as if the birds have disappeared, outside there is only silence. Everyone sleeps while Melanie decides to check the rooms upstairs. When she comes up, she gets trapped by the birds and is attacked.

Mitch saves her and knows he has to intervene. He opens the door to the house and notices that there are birds everywhere. Crows on the roof, seagulls on the ground. Mitch puts the car in front of the door and then drives off with Melanie, his mother and his sister. The sun rises as the car disappears from the picture on the horizon. #elliebrokking #weetjenog
