Furthermore it’s a method of connecting individual geometry with cosmic geometry in order to achieve the maximum level of perception and harmony. Yoga allows for a total physical, physiological, and psychological transformation. Here we talk about what is yoga, its history and its ultimate benefits.
Brief history of yoga
In the Rig Veda, a compilation of ancient scriptures, the word "yoga" is first mentioned. The term ‘yoga’ is derived from the Sanskrit word "Yuj," which means "to connect". It originated almost 5,000 years ago in northern India. During the late 1890s, Indian monks brought their yoga knowledge to the West. By the 1970s, Western countries had embraced modern yoga teachings. Yoga is thought to have originated at the dawn of civilization. The presence of Yoga in ancient India is suggested by the number fossil remnants of the Indus Saraswati valley civilization with Yogic themes and figures conducting Yoga Sadhana. Yoga can be found in folk traditions, Indus valley civilization, Vedic and Upanishadic legacy, Buddhist and Jain traditions, Darshanas, Mahabharat and Ramayana epics, Shaiva and Vaishnava theistic traditions, and Tantric traditions.
Types of yoga
There are many variants of yoga. Here, I have described few types of yoga.
• BIKRAM YOGA: This style of yoga is frequently practised in a hot, humid setting with temperatures about 40 degrees. Bikram Yoga consists of approximately 26 distinct positions and is ideal for individuals aspiring to lose weight.
• HATHA YOGA: Hatha Yoga has been practisced since the 15th century. Unlike other styles of yoga, this one is done at a moderate, calm pace and focuses on meditation. One of the primary goals is to educate newcomers on the most common relaxation techniques and asanas. Vinyasa Yoga is also known as Ashtanga Yoga, and you can practice it in hot and humid situations as well.
• VINYASA YOGA: It is a strength-training method that aids the development of lean muscle mass throughout the body. The benefit of employing Vinyasa Yoga as a primary approach for increasing muscle development is that it gives equal attention to all muscle groups, resulting in a careful balance.
• KUNDALINI YOGA: ‘Yoga of awareness’ is another term for this form of yoga. This technique has a powerful spiritual tension that permeates your consciousness. It uses movement, sound, breath, and meditation to calm and repair the mind and body while also increasing strength, flexibility, and endurance. In addition, it increases your awareness of your thoughts and feelings as well as your ability to select how to react to them.
• ANUSARA YOGA: Anusara Yoga is a brand-new type of yoga (1997). This type of yoga is considered to be one of the most spiritual, as it focuses on the inner self, mind, and soul. It could be understood as a hybrid of Hatha yoga and tantric philosophy. This yoga is comprised of three components i.e. attitude, action, and alignment. The Sanskrit word Anusara means "flowing with elegance." Anusara Yoga is a form of yoga that builds strength, tones muscles with relaxation of the body and mind.
