European Drought Observatory!
AND THE SUMMER IS YET TO COME . A few months ago, it was just about preventing Europeans from being left out in the cold because of expensive gas, that seems like a long time ago and it's now about heat and drought. In Córdoba in southern Spain, it reached 387 degrees on Thursday, a new European record, and it is already too dry in a quarter of Europe. Spring is now only halfway.
Water on ration . Specifically, this drought looks like this: in Italy, the Po is just as low as it was in the summer of last year. The snow that was supposed to fill the river did not fall last winter. In France, there was even a “winter drought”, even due to a lack of rainfall, in addition to the dry summers that preceded it. An even more severe drought is forecast for this summer than in 2022. And Spain is the deepest orange-red of all the member states on the map of the European Drought Observatory. In Córdoba, the water reservoir is even almost empty. The government gives the population five liters of drinking water per person every day, because in some places nothing comes out of the tap. But the north can't escape it either: even in Scandinavia, it's a lot drier than usual. Coincidentally, the Netherlands and neighboring countries are still in quite good shape, although that says little about next summer.
