Chocolate Tasting

For those that have been to Cape Town, perhaps you have been the "Spice Route" in Paarl.

If you love to test drinks and food this is the place for you. It is here that you can do wine tasting, craft beer tasting, spirit tasting... you get the picture.

There are also artisanal meals to try, such a pizza or you may even want to eat at one of the restaurants.

But perhaps what it is most famous for is their chocolate tasting. The chocolate makers known as De Villiers Chocolate, are doing quite well for themselves and we can even buy their artisan chocolate from our local Woolworth stores and just a few days ago I read that they are now officially available in the US as well.

If it is busy, you may have to wait in line for a bit, once inside the process is explained to you. You begin by tasting a cocoa bean, bitter for most people, personally I enjoyed it. From there you are taken to different areas with chocolates arranged from dark chocolates and cocoa percentages.
They also have popular ones such as chocolate mint and salted caramel.

We were 9 people and pretty much every one spoke highly of the dark chocolate with orange one.

As you approach the end of the tasting the chocolates become too sweet, at least for me and many of the adults that were there, children on the other hand enjoyed this point the most.

You can then buy your own chocolate slabs to take home, that are even boxed so beautifully that it makes them look like postcards. If you prefer pretty bite size chocolate they also have an amazing display of those, so good luck chosing from there.

If you are planning on visiting Cape Town one day, I would recommend it as an outing and a day to spoil your taste buds as well as have incredibly beautiful views every where you turn.

@The Original Enrique Yes, it's a really nice place. A had more photos, especially of the chocolate but they seem to have vanished somewhere in the cloud 🙈
