Food marsh forest in The Hague
In the heart of The Hague, a group of people investigates which edible plants thrive best in a wet area, such as the peat meadow area. Think of water mint, the root of cattail, which, like azola, is very high in protein, or sea beet. Students were commissioned to design a food swamp. With the idea of growing plants on peat meadow soil that produce food while at the same time being able to cope with wet feet, students won an innovation price demand. This gave them money to actually plant the food marsh forest. With the support of the municipality, they were able to get to work in the heart of The Hague to see if the idea of a food swamp forest also held up in practice.
