Isn't it magical to see coloured pictures coming out while drawing on a black surface...that is what happens in scratch art.
We love scratch art as it maintains the suspense and magic in every second.

Here are the steps we followed to create a henna scratch art.
1) We just traced out the hands of big brother and little one on white chart paper and made the hand prints.
2) It was coloured with bright and light crayon colours in stripes.
3) We added black tempera paint over the crayons and let it dry.
4)  It's time to spread some HENNA with wooden skewers.

For those who wonder what henna is......
HENNA/HINA(Lawsonia inermis aka Egyptian privet or mignonette) is a medicinal shrub which is made into a paste and spread on hands, nails and feet in particular designs. It can also be used as a natural hair dye.Jenna designs are temporary body art
People in different parts of the world apply henna on hands,feet and any part of the body on various festive occassions like marriage,Eid, Navratri etc.
It is available as readymade cones in markets and can be prepared at home from fresh henna leaves ,crushing and grinding it.
It is applied in various forms.
🌿With toothpicks or sticks
🌿Using stencils
🌿The paste is transferred to a con and piped out on hands

I have shared some pictures of the real henna hand designs from last Eid and my sister's wedding. You can find the transition of colour into darker version after hours of application.🤚🤚

This activity was a mere joy for my boy as we couldn't put henna as it was out of stock at our nearby store . He has asked me to get more hands for him to practice the henna art.

Drawing with henna is not very common in the Netherlands. But the scratch paper can be purchased even in the hobby shop at us.
But making it all by yourself is of course also great fun.

I know this from the past. As a child, I made such drawings with wasco chalk. I found that magic. 🤗 I did that on plain A4 paper. The idea of making a shape first is a lot of fun. So you can make endless variations. Be sure to remember these and make a deal with my granddaughters. 🤩
