Minneola - If you look at a minneola, also called tangelo, it reminds of a large mandarin and a small orange. I had heard of the name, but two years ago I just started discovering them. At first I had to laugh a little when I first saw them with that bulge at the ends. They're sitting there, because that's where the stem hung on. Peel the peel was just as easy as a tangerine, where peeling a hand orange is always a lot harder and stiffer. The taste is nice and fresh, slightly sour and a little sweet and reminds me of a tangerine and a hint of orange. Still, it looks more like a mandarin, I think. The only difference from the mandarin is that the minneola contains even more juice. Conclusion: I like the minneola better than a mandarin and as tasty as a hand orange. - - The minneola is not a cross between a mandarin and an orange, but a cross between a mandarin and a grapefruit. The name Tangelo is a combination of tangarine which means a small mandarin and a pomelo, a grapefruit. Funny, because I don't recognize the taste and structure at all in a grapefruit, but still it is so. The minneola belongs to the citrus. You can reap these fruits in January and February. We can consume them almost all year. 3500 years ago, the Arabs brought this fruit to Europe. The minneola is named after the town of Minneola in Florida. - - Useful and important facts about the Minneola - They should be stored at a temperature of 12 degrees. So they can just lie on the fruit bowl and also easily next to other types of fruit. It ripens faster next to bananas. Only in the summer months it is better to store them in the refrigerator. In the refrigerator it is better not to put next to the bananas. It contains a lot of vitamin C. Eating Minneola per day is the recommended daily intake of vitamin C that a person needs. The minneola is also rich in vitamin B11 The minneola is rich in fiber. The minneola is rich in carbohydrates and provides energy. The minneola contains little to no pips, very pleasant. The shelf life of the Minneola is 1 to 2 weeks on the fruit bowl. You can also use the skin of the Minneola after good scrubbing and washing as a grater in dishes and the slices are also tasty in a salad for example. Because a minneola contains a lot of juice that is also easy to squeeze and tasty as juice or smoothie. When taking medication, such as for example with blood pressure lowering and cholesterol lowering, heart - and asthma medication, you should be careful with citrus fruits, such as the grapefruit, but also the minneola. Citrus fruit can slow down the breakdown of certain medications and as a result, the drug levels can be increased in the blood, causing more side effects. This is due to the substance furocumarins contained in the juice of the fruit. In particular, the substance bergamottin inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme which is intended to cause degradation in the liver and intestines. Through the compound with furocoumarin and CYP3A4, this enzyme is also broken down in certain medicines, causing more of the drug to enter the bloodstream. So you inadvertently receive more medication than you should have. #minneola   #citrusfruit   #blog   #blogging   #fruit   #maddysfoodfun   #foodphotography   #tangelo   #druguse   #furocoumarins   #health   #voeding   #nutritionalfacts   #health         - - Source indication: https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tangelo   https://www.voedingscentrum.nl/nl/thema/kopen-koken-bewaren/eten-bewaren/hoe-lang-kan-ik-bewaren/mineola.aspx   https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furocumarinen   Tangelo - Wikipedia - How long can you store mineola? | Voedingscentrum - Furocumarins - Wikipedia - - Maddys FoodFun - Yoors food blogger Food, Fun & More - Read more food blogs or view foodfun?
