Right now we're in the middle of a kitchen remodeling and look back from beginning to now.
On August 8, 2019 I wake up and I thought: how hard it is raining. If I let my bed get out and walk down the hall I'm in the water. The sound of rain does not come from the outside, but from the kitchen. I know where the main faucet is, so kitchen cabinet is empty and faucet closed. Marco called and luckily he was very close to his work and came home right away. I made pictures and a video of everything for the insurance and I went to put down bath towels and move 2 cabinets out of the hall. The kitchen at that time I already see that at least 2 cabinets are rotten, but later due to the rising moisture, the damage turns out even greater. #verbouwing
As soon as Marco parks his work car, neighbors come to him, because the storage room also turns out to be blank. I hadn't thought about that yet. For years we had the suspicion that there was a sound leak and this was confirmed with this. Where in the past there was a stamp in support of construction was never properly closed. Our neighbors are of great help and with the four of us we dry everything. The plumber and insurance has been called, and both are coming almost immediately. Marco has then taken away all the water in the general storage room and tries to find out who the storage rooms are where water has run. This will be settled later with the insurance of the Vve.
We also called Eneco and they also have been the same day. We had a locker at our boiler a few days before. A so-called smart water heater module. Green power left with Eneco would be used to heat up the water heater. Previously, the boiler received a signal to warm up at 23:00. Unfortunately, it turned out afterwards that the thermostat in the smart boiler module did not work, causing the water in the boiler to boil, and the flexible hose in the kitchen was melted between the lead pain and stall.
After installing the smart boiler module we had called right away, because the water heater also felt hot on the outside and the water was very hot. Now water from a water heater is always hot quickly, but this was dangerous, because we really need to be careful not to burn us. This was normal and couldn't hurt. Later it turned out that we were not the only one with this problem and that even people had plucked pipes into the wall.
Eneco says call your insurance but, insurance said you're not insured for that while even extra for this kind of thing is insured. Then insured again, but well 25 years old kitchen. He still looked perfect and we didn't feel the need to replace the kitchen. We even spent a year there for a new refrigerator.
Then we had to see if the same base cabinets could be ordered, those sizes changed, then carpenter, then, then. Oh yes and wait for 3 days for Eneco, because the water heater was still too hot, so after hot water use always with cold water behind it. I'm sorry about the harpstick, but man, man, man, man, that's how I feel. Eventually the kitchen company has done its best and we got a nice amount to pick out a new kitchen, but yes also the tiles ed had to be replaced because of higher cabinets nowadays and so it soon became a complete kitchen renovation in which we are still in the middle.
