In Venezuela, strawberry cultivation is of great importance for the livelihood of many families in the upper areas. However, the area planted, production and quality is decreasing due to the lack of a technological package and planting system to ensure the success of the crop.
Strawberry in Venezuela is not highlighted by the number of hectares planted, nor by the foreign exchange generated by its export. This crop is located in the high areas of Mérida, Táchira, Trujillo, Aragua (Colonia Tovar), Miranda and Monagas, where it is traditionally grown in the open field.
In the town of Mucurubá in the state of Mérida, due to its cold and dry climate, strawberries are grown in small valleys and plateaus, using the streams of the mountains.
In recent years, Trujillo has included strawberry as one of its production items, and Cabimbú is the main producer within the entity, producing 87% of domestic strawberries and 90% of strawberries from regional consumption, which is destined for Maracaibo, Valencia, Barquisimeto and Caracas
